Application-specific integrated circuit: a custom chip manufactured from your own design. High up-front cost, but the best speed and efficiency.
Expert
Fixed function after tapeout, with mask NRE and months of fab and bring-up time. It pays off when the function is stable and either volume or performance margin justifies the cost.
